Introduction
AWSC develops projects, events, workshops, and conferences in the areas of women’s well-being and empowerment. Our projects aim to help women in regard to social welfare, unemployment, civic engagement, family dynamics, and gender equality.
AWSC provides workshops, programs, art, music, handicrafts, hobbies and recreation for the benefit of the general public. AWSC is dedicated to empowering families and women to run their own businesses by providing workshops, coaching, mentorship, etc.
AWSC also provides newcomer families with settlement support that aims to decrease social isolation and encourages integration into the Canadian society. Our programs such as Newcomer Orientation, information about and support to apply for PR Card, Citizenship, Work Permit, SIN Card, OHIP, etc., support women and families to tackle poverty and unemployment.
Employment preparation, training and counselling
AWSC provides education, counselling and other support services for low-income women and families, immigrants and refugees in need, including job search programs, translation services and information programs on Canadian culture and life. We provide the following services to contribute to bringing communities out of poverty by services such as Clothing, Exchange, Food Bank, Community Dinners, Information about and Referral to appropriate Service Providers, Information about and Support to apply for Ontario Works, EI (Employment Insurance), Old Age Security (OAS), Guaranteed Income Supplement, CPP (Canada Pension Plan), ODSP (Ontario Disability Support Program), Canada Child Tax Benefit, and Social Housing.
Health and Nutrition
AWSC provides free mental health services, psychosocial services, psychoeducation and health workshops, and free sanitation and hygiene products to improve the health of women and families and maintain their employability, food security and sustainability. Our programs in this respect aim to conduct ongoing awareness on the importance of physical and mental health in the financial security of women and families.
Education
AWSC believes in the power of education in tackling gender-based violence, inequality and poverty. AWSC aims to advocate for human rights, equitable access to education and dignity for all through education.
AWSC has affiliations with different educational institutions to train future generations of psychotherapists, social workers and social services workers. AWSC also organizes workshops on different education and employment programs across Canada and provides social support for those who need help in applying for these education and employment programs..
